Make Sure Your Affordable Partial Dentures Have a Comfortable Fit

Partial dentures are great tooth replacement options, but getting used to them can take a while. While dentists affordable partial dentures are custom made to fit properly and comfortably in your mouth, your dentures may still need to be adjusted to your preference.

You will initially be asked to wear your partial dentures all the time so you can identify which areas may need some fine tuning. During this time, it’s important to take note of any soreness, irritation and increased saliva you experience and test the fit of your dentures using these three steps.

Practice Putting Dentures On

If it’s your first time wearing dentures, it’s crucial to follow the instructions given to you by your dentist. Normally, he will demonstrate how to put it in your mouth properly when you first get them.

It is recommended to practice putting it on and taking it off a few times, preferably in front of a mirror, so you can grow accustomed to doing so. Never force partial dentures into place by biting down hard since this can cause the clasps to bend or break. If they slip out of place when you try laughing, coughing or smiling, simply reposition them, gently bite down and swallow.

Rehearse Speaking Out Loud

Since your dentures practically feel like a foreign object in your mouth, you might find it a bit challenging to speak clearly. Pronouncing certain words requires some time and practice.

Remember to speak slowly while carefully articulating each word, especially if you hear any clicking noises while you talk. If you read out loud and repeat troublesome words several times, you should eventually become familiar enough with the dentures to speak more clear. If any speaking problems persists, schedule an appointment with your dentist for adjustment.

Start with Soft or Small Foods

Eating will also need some practice as chewing may cause your partial dentures to slip. For this reason, your dentist will advise you to start small and take it slow. For the first few days of wearing your new dentures, you may want to stick to a diet of soft foods or at least cut up pieces of larger chunks before consumption.

Chew on both sides of the mouth to keep even pressure at the same time. Avoid anything too hot, hard, sharp-edged or sticky so as not to damage your dentures or irritate the gums. After a while, you can work your way back up to your regular diet.

As your mouth naturally changes over time, denture adjustment will become a necessary part of your oral care routine.
